About the Jewish Observance of Three Weeks

DESCRIPTION:
Three Weeks, or Bein ha-Metzarim, is an observance in the Jewish faith mourning the destruction of the first (586 BC) and second Temples (70 AD).
Observed beginning in the Hebrew month of Tammuz, on its seventeenth day, and ending on the ninth day of Av, each aspect of three weeks has different traditions.
There are four levels of mourning and each level intensifies as it moves towards the end of the observance. Throughout Three Weeks, observants are not allowed to cut or shave hair, nor conduct marriages or other major celebrations. Three Weeks is a time of mourning.
Some people will fast from meat during this time. Haftarots are read on Saturday. During the final nine days, mourning is intensified though additional activities including not consuming poultry, meat and wine or taking warm baths.
